Food Drive

Welcome to Ma's Got'a Notion
Here at Ma's, we got your back...quilt back, that is!!!

My heart has been so heavy knowing that many families will be going hungry in the days to come, as SNAP is not being funded. As individuals, we cannot feed everyone, but we can feed some, and those we can't completely fill their hungry bellies, we can at least help to ward off starvation.

My husband and I are helping one single mom with four children, whom we have adopted during this crisis. This single mom is a hardworking gal; it's just that her low-paying job doesn't stretch to cover the needs of a growing family on a single income. If you do not know a family in need, reach out to family members, neighbors, or friends, or call the schools or churches near you to ask if they will see to it that your donation goes directly to a family in need. Most of us can all afford to adopt a family for a short while during this uncertainty.

Bigger cities, towns, and counties have access to more food banks, larger churches, and resources to help those in need of food. In my small town of 3000 plus, there are limited places to get food for the hungry. I want to help those in need in my hometown, and I hope my customers will help me help them here in Havana and Mason County.

Here are my thoughts: Each time a customer brings in a donation (i.e., canned, boxed, or other food items; paper products; and bathing and cleaning items), I will give you, my customer, 10% off your total ticket. At the end of each week, I will either deliver to the local collection centers or ask if they have someone who can pick up the collected goods. There are only two such places here in town, both being churches that I am aware of. I plan to do this drive from November 4th through December 20th, 2025. If the SNAP program is not back in place when the new year rolls around, I will revisit extending the drive then, if warranted. Regardless of whether a miracle happens and SNAP is reinstated over the next few days, I will still be doing the food drive. With winter approaching and everything so expensive, families on low incomes will need help during the holiday season, regardless of whether they receive SNAP benefits.

I know that 10% may not sound like much to most people, but it would be worth it to you to bring in a can of food, or a box of mac & cheese, or a roll of toilet paper, or other like items to save that 10% on your total invoice.

In the following weeks, we must dig deep and help the next generation of "littles," who, if they go hungry, it will affect so many aspects of their lives —school, friendships, behaviour, and, most detrimentally, their health. Please help where you can, when you can, and as much as you can. As I said before, we can't help everyone, but we can at least help a few.

Thank you so much. I am tickled to offer you a 10% discount on full-price items; all sales items will receive the same discount. I feel so strongly about the food that will be missing from many tables in the weeks ahead that we must reach out to our fellow man with any help we can offer.

I hope to see you in the coming weeks with your donation in hand. I will be here and tickled to apply your 10% off for your contribution to this greatly needed drive.

Thank you for the generosity. I know that my customers have the best hearts I've ever seen, and I've yet to be proved wrong about it!

Have a great week, and I hope to see you around the cutting table at Ma's.
