Jan. 2023 newsletter Classes begin!

Welcome to Ma's Got'a Notion
Here at Ma's, we got your back...quilt back that is!!!

I have been amazed at the moderate winter we have had, this side of the new year.
I just keep thinking ok, lets get through the next 11 weeks or so, and we will be greeting the buds of spring.
Those are the thoughts that keep me motivated on the grey gloomy days...that, and the new fabrics, patterns, and books that roll in the front door here at the shop!

As you may recall one of my daughters lives in Santa Cruz CA. She and her hubby have been blessed, as they have sustained little or no harm to their home or personal property, caused by the storms over the last many weeks. Of course, getting around to their work and errands has been a challenge on some days. I will be visiting them in Feb. and have requested the beach be cleaned up for me. They assure me the beaches will be cleared in time for my visit. The volunteers who selflessly donate their spare time to walk the beaches cleaning are phenomenal. I can understand the pride they take in the beautiful place in which they live, and why they strive to keep the beaches clear of marine debris and trash. It is a beyond beautiful place, and I truly enjoy my visits there.

Onto the the shop news: The beginner class is a table runner as I mentioned in the last newsletter. "Stars In My Garden" is a great beginner friendly pattern.

I "Ma" will teach any newbie about reading a simple pattern, pressing, how to rotary cut the needed pieces and how to make HST (1/2 square triangles). You will learn the proper way to apply borders, layer the sandwich, baste, quilt, and bind the finished runner.
To participate in the class you will need a working sewing machine, your machine manual, and some operating knowledge of your machine.
You will need to have a new sewing needle and also a quilting needle. You must have a 1/4" foot and a walking foot for your machine.
I have a list of the required needs to complete this project at the shop or if you will email me at: masgotanotion@gmail.com I will mail you the PDF.
All class participants will receive a 10% discount on needed class supplies. Please note that you may pick the fabrics of your choice for your table runner to match your homes decor.
The classes will be held in my Studio at 106 N. Schrader St.
6 PM - 9 PM
Thursdays Feb. 9th & 16th.
and
Thursdays March 2nd, and 9th.
The TOTAL for all 4 classes is $30.00 per participant. That means ALL 4 classes which is a total of 12 hours of classes for only $30.00. A lot of on hands training for the price.
There must be a minimum of 3 participants to hold the class and a max of 8 students for a beginners class to be held.
Please sign up for this class no later than Saturday Feb. 4, 2023 so we know if we can proceed with the plans for this class.
Please give a 24 hour notice, if you are unable to attend any class you have signed up for.
Please note that class fees are non-refundable but may be transferred to a future class.

Classes taught here at Ma's support the fabric and merchandise carried in the shop and appreciate it if you purchase your fabric and supplies from Ma's shop.

We have had several request to start back up the sit-n-sew at my Studio.
Starting Saturday, March 25th, there will be a sit-n-sew in my Studio from 10 am - 4 pm and we will continue for the following dates if there is enough interest in this get-together.
March 25th, April 15th, 29th, May 13th, 27th, July 8th and 22nd.
(Please note that we will not be holding any sit-n-sews or classes in June, Aug., Sept., or Dec.).
The cost is $5.00 per person. There must be a minimum of 5 sewers and a max of 10 to hold this gathering.
Debbie and I will rotate being at the studio to answer any questions you may have, the other will be in the shop to wait on customers.
You can work on any project you like. This is a good time also to work on any UFOs you may have or, any new project you may feel more comfortable doing with someone near to help you work out any questions you have on how to proceed.
Also, feel free to work on the BOM "Blissful" offered here at Ma's, in this time frame too.
Please sign up for the first sit-n-sew no later than later than Tue. March 22, 2023 so we will know if we can proceed with this fellowship.
We will have cutting boards and irons/boards for your use. You will need to bring your sewing machine and all things you deem necessary to complete your project.
Please bring your own drinks to last the day and also any snacks that can be shared with other sit-n-sew participants.

Here at Ma's we are looking forward to offering classes and fellowship days once again.
After 3 years of keeping our distance for the safety of our customers, we feel our sacrifice of separation and efforts of keeping in mind the health of all have paid off.
I feel that we all know the requirements in regard to the safety of others and put that knowledge first and foremost before going out in public.
As a reminder, if you are not feeling well, have a cold or fever...please do not attend any function until your symptoms subside.
With all that being said...Looking forward to renewing old friendship and making new ones!

Have a great week and hope to see you around the cutting table here at Ma's.
