This Cut Loose Press Pattern uses both the 4” Log Cabin Trim Tool and the 4” Curvy Log Cabin Trim Tool to build square log cabin blocks for this wall hanging. If you haven’t used these tools before to make a log cabin block you will be amazed at how perfect they are. Well that is what you will be learning in this class!
Class is designed with the intermediate piecer in mind. You will need to bring the following to class:
1. Sewing machine (yep, please clean and de-lint it before class) so it is ready to rock and roll! Don’t forget your machine manual… should you need to refer back to it. Your quarter inch presser foot is a must!
2. 80/12 sewing machine needles, Sharps are preferred for piecing. Thread to match your fabric. Basic sewing supplies: seam ripper, fine pins (we prefer Glass Heads) your rotary cutter with a new blade, 6 ½” X 24 ½” ruler, thread snips, marking tools. Also if you have a 28 mm rotary cutter, it sure is useful for squaring up but not required.
3. Please press all fabrics before coming to class. We make liberal use of Mary Ellen’s Best Press when preparing our fabrics for cutting. We like to have our fabric very stiff before cutting. This will help make your cutting and piecing more accurate.
4. Please cut your strips according to the pattern before coming to class. Do not cut the gold for the star or the squares of background for the stars. The 4” Curvy Log Cabin Trim tool, the 4” Log Cabin Trim Tool, the pattern, Pine Tree Banner or Table Runner, the fabrics and any of the notions needed for this class can be purchased at Ma’s on Main St.
As an FYI Ma does have kits available or choose your own fabrics.
Pressing stations and cutting surfaces are provide for the class, but you may bring your own if you prefer.
Time for a lunch break is limited, so a sack lunch is advised or snacks to share with your class mates. You can always run out for takeout if that is a better option for you. Please bring your own drinks in a spill proof container.
Like all school days….you will have “HOMEWORK” which will need to be completed between the class meeting dates….
