This class is designed to build confidence in straight stitching and how not to fear sewing with flannels. It will also teach you how to read a pattern, to square up your blocks, press, and put your blocks together to create a pattern from the blocks.
I have precut squares for you in a kit that cost $70.00 includes the fabrics for the top and pattern, (you must purchase the kit before class time). The name of this quilt is “For the Boys” a design by Ma. I named it this because the colors and the plaids just make me think it looks manly!
The kit it will make a 72” X 72” throw quilt. There is no binding in this kit as you will use whatever you choose to back it at a later date once quilted (no wasted fabrics that way).
No need to learn how to cut out a quilt in this class…that will be taught in other classes after you are convinced that you can indeed piece a top (I have done the prep-work for you)!
You will need the following for class:
A working sewing machine with the instruction booklet, it must include (a walking foot, this is a must have for this class). Your machine must be cleaned prior to class.
Mary Ellen’s Best Press. New 80/12 needle. Thread to match your project. 9.5” Square Ruler & 6.5” X 24.5” Ruler, Rotary Cutter with a new blade, fabric marking pen (that can be seen on your lightest fabric in the kit.
(A wool mat and bitty steam iron is great to have but not a necessity, but ohhhhawwww…what a treat to use)!
Cutting mats and irons will be provided but it is nice to have a ironing surface next to your sewing station (but not necessary).
Any needed notions and supplies can be found at Ma’s Got’a Notion.
If you bring a drink to the class, please have it in a spill proof adult sippy cup!
Oh and remember…there will be homework, But this homework is the best kind…you will be begging for more!
